Moving Mountains: The Principles and Purposes of Leon Sullivan
Published in Paperback by Judson Pr (February, 2000)
Author: Leon H. Sullivan
Average review score:

What a peaceful revolutionary can achieve
A black boy is not allowed to sit down and drink a coke. Having to undress in customs when leaving South Africa. These were two events that galvanised Reverend Leon Sullivan into action. And what action! The book reads like a novel. Rev Leon made a real difference in breaking down racial barriers in the US and in ending Apartheid in South Africa. I attended a lecture of Rev Leon in London in October 2000. Being well over seventy Rev. Leon is still a very inspiring speaker. That is why I bought the book. I was also curious to meet the man behind the Sullivan principles, part of the global compact between the UN and more than thirty global companies. The book describes very clearly how Rev. Leon succeeded in being such a strong and effective force for the good. Faith, effective use of non-violent power, and education are his tools. Education focuses on giving the downtrodden self-confidence and skills that are in demand. It is one of the few books that breathes optimism about the future of sub- Saharan Africa. It contains an excellent description of the problems and more importantly what can and should be done about them as well about the progress being made. Perhaps the Rev Leon is too optimistic but he has backed what look like hopeless cases before and succeeded. That is what moving mountains is all about. A very inspiring book.

The Music of Arthur Sullivan
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press Reprint (December, 1973)
Author: Gervase Hughes
Average review score:

A Musicologist Analyzes Sir Arthur Sullivan
Perhaps the most detailed musicological study of all of the compositons - not just the operettas - of Sir Arthur Sullivan. This is a relatively slim book, but it is packed with musical examples, analysis and commentary. This is definately a book for those with a musical education, a music theory book and dictionary or perhaps simply a Ph.D. in Musicology, is a good companion for reading Hughes' book.

The book analyzes Arthur Sullivans style, breaking it down into chapters dealing with musical forms such as melody, harmony, word setting, orchestration, etc. Copious examples in musical notation and snippets from scores, many from very obscure non-Savoy operas. (E.g. quotes from "The Zoo" which was still officially lost at the time of the original edition).

Hughes takes a very objective style, unusual for a books on Sullivan which tend be limited to the more prosaic descriptions of his operettas. He takes Sullivan to task for some of his failings (e.g. harmon! y) and praises him where appropriate (e.g. melody and word setting).

A unique and very detailed tome!

The New Digidestined
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (03 April, 2001)
Authors: Michael J. Sullvan and Michael J. Sullivan
Average review score:

Neat book with good action
This second season book is where they have a third battle with the Emperor and battle dosens of Tyrannomon. What's neat is that Gatomon and Patamon Armor-Digivolve. Well, read the rest of that story.

And now for the second. This is where Gabumon is captured by the Veggimon, who are on with the Digimon Emperor. Then the gang comes, and finds where the Veggiemon are, and the tower where they are is one of the Emperor's control spires. Either way, this was a really surprising story. Read the rest and find out why.

The Night Before Christmas (Harlequin Intrigue, No 352)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (December, 1995)
Author: Joyce Sullivan
Average review score:

Spellbinding! Captivating! Edge of your seat!
This was an excellent first novel. And the ending is very surprising! If you like romance, check all out of print resources! This is one you will not want to miss! The hero is dangerous and risky. The heroine believable! She could be your best friend. You want her to be happy. And the adventure and mystery quite surprising. I can usually solve a mystery way before the book ends, but with this one I was way, way off! You will love it if you can find it!!

Always asked for.
We purchased this audio book for our daughter to listen to in the car. Since then she has requested to hear it at home also, so she can follow along in the regular book. The story is very compelling for her to listen to. I even enjoy the story as we are going down the road. This is an excellent story for young children. We have practically worn out the tape we have.

Average review score:

A great combination of murder and golf!
For those of us who aren't lovers of golf, John Logue's golf mysteries are a revelation. And for those of you who are, don't miss out on this wonderful series. This is the best volume yet -- it's funny, engaging, engrossing, well-plotted, and much better written than the usual run of mysteries.
